Every Wednesday, July 12 to August 16

SHIMANO BIKE NYC offered a series of evening city rides in conjunction with Rapha, a leading bicycle apparel brand, every Wednesday starting from July 12 through August 16, 2017. Each time, SHIMANO BIKE NYC offered participants free rentals of brand-new bikes equipped with Shimano’s urban concept components, METREA and Alfine.
Following a briefing by Rapha’s leader, we rolled out of the Rapha Clubhouse on Prince Street at 6 p.m. and enjoyed a 1.5-hour city ride in NYC. Each time, the experienced tour leader from Rapha led us to one of the city’s landmarks, such as the Brooklyn Bridge or Battery Park. We finished our ride at SHIMANO BIKE NYC’s store and enjoyed mingling and sharing our cycling experiences with complimentary drinks and snacks. We had all different levels of participants, from beginners to avid cyclists (including Rapha Cycling Club members who regularly enjoy road rides of 100 miles or more), and everyone supported each other and enjoyed the beautiful summer weather in NYC together.
This series of social rides became one of our most popular tours during our two-month operation and spots filled up very quickly every week.

Ed Nessen, RCC Chapter Coordinator:

“Teaming up with SHIMANO BIKE NYC this summer was a great experience and allowed us to engage with a group of cyclists we don’t get to see that often in the Rapha New York Clubhouse – commuters, urban riders, casual cyclists, and those brand new to cycling or that haven’t been on bikes since their youth. The weekly evening rides in street clothes and flat pedals felt fresh and were a nice change of pace from our regular road bike and lycra programming. It was inspiring to experience riding a bike in the city from a totally different point of view and the riders’ enthusiasm and energy was contagious. The whole summer series of rides was a great reminder of the power of bicycles to bring people together, no matter their background, age, or level of experience or fitness. As the summer came to a close, we were already looking forward to doing it again next year.”

Although we closed our pop-up store on August 20, we look forward to more SHIMANO BIKE NYC x Rapha collaborations in the near future to encourage more and more people to ride in the city! Again, thank you so much for Rapha for these amazing tours together!
